Q: How do I put a website on my server?

A: So, you've chosen a web hosting company and created your website and now you need to determine how to get that website on to your web server.

You need to get your FTP information from your web hosting company. FTP stands for "file transfer protocol", and is a common protocol that is used for moving files from machine to machine on the Internet. Your web hosting company will provide this information to you. You'll need:

FTP address:
Username:
Password:

If you're using Frontpage or Dreamweaver (or most other website development tools), you can use their functionality to uploade your files. You'll be able to set up the program to upload the files for you.

If you're not using one of these programs, you'll need to download and install an FTP program. A common program is WS-FTP. A number of other FTP programs can be found at any shareware website.
